SPORT
Bowls is one of the oldest English sports. It is played on a lawn, a square-shaped field covered with green grass, with side lengths of 36,5840,23 meters. The playing surface is surrounded by a ditch that is 20,3-38,1 cm wide and 5.1-20.3 cm deep. The bowls (balls) used in the game are made from synthetic materials and are painted black or brown. Their diameter ranges from 11,7 to 13 cm, and their weight must not exceed 1,59 kg. The target is a white ball, known as the "jack", which has a diameter of 6,276,43 cm and weighs between 22679-283,49 grams.
Bowls is played by pairs of teams with 2-2 or 3-3 players, or by singles. In singles, each player is given 4 bowls, while pairs get 2, a team of three gets 3, and a team of four gets 4. The game begins with the jack being thrown, followed by players rolling their bowls in its direction, one by one. The goal of the game is to get the bowl as close as possible to the jack. A player will score 1 point for each bowl that is closer to the jack than the opponent’s bowl. The game continues until one of the sides accumulates 21 points.
